The Splashing Tetra is a very peaceful, schooling fish that can be added into any community aquarium. The body of this uncommon Tetra is long and slender and can appear in both gold or silver in color and color enhancing food will bring these colors out and make them more vibrant, see pics. The males of this species have flowing longer fins and are slightly larger than females. The fins of the male also have more colors showing red and black outlines. The Splashing Tetra gets its name from their breeding behavior because while mating in the wild, both the male and the female leave the water and lay their eggs on overhanging plant leaves on banks. While the eggs are maturing, the male splashes water on them to keep them from drying out. Pretty cool right! Enjoy your Splashing Tetra in a community aquarium with soft or brackish water as well! Plants, rocks, and driftwood will enhance its natural habitat and provide hiding places. This is a peaceful fish that the beginner to the expert aquarist will do well with and appreciate.
