With a distintive blue shading and unique anal fin the Blue Channel Catfish separates itself from its close relative, the mud catfish. The Blue Channel is an adaptive species and opportunistic feeder making both live and dead bait options reliable choices for any angler.
Natural to the Tennessee River, the Blue Channel Catfish (Ictalurus furcatus) typically averages around 10 pounds in weight and 18-24 inches in length in lakes. There have been much larger caught, including a record setting 120 pound Blue Channel Catfish caught in Holts Reservoir. The delicious flavor and abundance make the Blue Channel a popular choice for fishing.
