Description

The Small African Mopani Driftwood has an average size of about 7 inches long. This is ideal for smaller aquarium 2-10 gallons. Multiple pieces can even be used at a time for a better effect. Rather than having to wait for the wood to sink, woods sold at Arizona Aquatic Gardens sink instantly! All natural wood will leech out tannins. Although they are completely natural and harmless you may not want them to be visible. With water changes occurring over time, the tannins will be less obvious due to the wood leeching out. To remove the tan or brown color from your water, use products such as Boyd’s Chemi Pure Elite or API ChemiZorb. Place these pouches in your filter or hide them under rocks or wood to pull the color out of your tank. Using a beneficial bacteria is very critical for a successful aquarium. This will help culture or “marinate” your wood very quickly. If you’re not familiar with any products we highly recommend API Stress-Zyme Plus, AquaGold & Microbe-Lift Special Blend. Be sure that there is at least some aquarium salt content to curb any fungus growth. Nerite snails can also fix any problems regarding garbage growing on the wood.

A beautiful, two-color African hardwood for aquariums or terrariums.
Mopani is a heavy 2-toned African hardwood which sinks in water

A beautiful two color African hardwood. Mopani is one of the hardest and most dense wood types available, and is suitable in just about any type of environment. A common choice for aquarium enthusiasts for the wood’s ability to sink in water, and hold up indefinitely. Suitable for enclosures ranging from aquatic to desert.

Smooth surface, textured detail, and unique mottled color adds interest and enrichment to habitats.
Use with plants to create the “naturalistic” look.
One of the hardest and densest woods available; sinks immediately in aquariums and unlike driftwood, will not rot!

All natural wood leaches tannins, which discolor water and reduce pH levels. To minimize this effect, soak wood in a separate container, and change water daily to remove excess tannins. The wood will be ready when the water color goes from dark brown to a very light.
Adding extra carbon to your aquarium filter can help remove any remaining discoloration.
