Description
Black Swordtail
Xiphophorous hellerii
The Black Swordtail is an exquisite color morph of the popular Swordtails species. This is another highly sought-after variation of the Xiphophorus helleri that boasts a breathtaking black/blue coloration with flair! The male has short, sleek fins with a distinct extension on the lower part of the tail, resembling a sword. Even though the female does not have the distinguishing sword-like tail (see 2nd pic), her vibrant coloration makes her breathtaking as well. The Black Swordtail is an omnivore that will eat commercially prepared flaked foods, freeze dried bloodworms, tubifex, brine shrimp as well as algae. They will grow to be a miximum of 3 or 4”, require a temperature of 64-82 F, a KH of 12-30, and a pH of 7-8.3.
