Description

Cyrtocara moorii, Hump Head Cichlid
In search of fish that’s easy to care for? Then the Blue Dolphin Cichlid is the fish for you!

They get along with most other African Cichlids, just be sure they have a spacious, rocky environment. Plants are a great addition because they provide refuge, offer shelter, and are helpful in removing waste.

Want to breed your Blue Dolphin Cichlids? Here are some helpful hints:
A ratio of five to seven females and one male will provide the best opportunities for breeding. Living in a colony, these fish breed readily and easily. The mothers carry the eggs in their mouths for twelve to eighteen days; but once released, the fry find refuge in plants and don’t return to their mothers.

A diet rich in meaty foods will help these carnivores grow to their full size of about nine inches. Cichlid pellets and freeze-dried foods, such as bloodworms, tubifex, and brine shrimp provide the proper nutrition.

Aquarium care tips for the Blue Dolphin Cichlids include:

  • pH: 7.8-8.6
  • KH: 10-15°
  • Temp: 76-82° F
