Description
The Jack Dempsey Cichlid (Nandopsis octofasciatum) is native to Central America and thrives best in warm waters of 78-88 degrees Fahrenheit. With greyish to dark brown coloring, these fish also commonly sport spots of bright blue and emerald.
Similar to other Cichlid varieties, these fish will change colors and become more vibrant when mating conditions are at their peak. Jack Dempseys should be kept in aquarium environments with neutral water hardness, and note that these fish are known to eat smaller ones when they become territorial.
