This is a very peaceful and shy schooling fish that you should keep together with other peaceful fish. The Tube-Mouthed Pencilfish water quality is very important, so be sure and house in a tank that has extra filtration or what some may call “over-filtered” water. The water should be bit acid and soft for best results although they have done well in our hard water with some acclimation, however, we do use some of the blackwater products, and some peat granules to help. Keep in large schools for best results as they will give each other comfort to keep the stress level down. We only sell this fish in numbers, we do not offer onesy or twoseys. Our minimum order is no less than 12. This is a fish for the more advanced aquarist. The aquarium should be well planted to offer hiding places and keep stress down. Some floating plants are a good idea.
