Description
Utricularia graminifolia or grass-leaved bladderwort
Freshwater Aquarium Plant
Utricularia graminifolia (commonly known as grass-leaved bladderwort or UG) is a unique, carnivorous carpeting plant frequently used in freshwater aquascapes and terrariums.
Ideal Aquarium Requirements
• Lighting: Medium to high intensity to encourage tight, horizontal growth. But this plant will virtually grow in all types of Aquarium lighting- low to high
• Temp: 70–82°F
How It Works (Carnivorous Nature)
• Hidden among its fine leaves are hundreds of microscopic bladder traps (0.2 to 1 mm in size).
• These bladders pump out water to maintain a negative pressure vacuum.
• When tiny triggering hairs are touched by microscopic organisms (like zooplankton or rotifers), a trap door springs open, instantly sucking in the prey to digest for vital nitrogen and phosphorus.
• It does not require target feeding in an aquarium.
Utricularia always ships excellent year round. Easy to grow. Hard to kill. You will love this one!
