Etymology: Dianema: From the Greek di-, meaning two and nema, meaning filament; in reference to the long maxillary barbels.

Horizontal black and white alternating stripes on tail fin, the only other member of the genus has a clear caudal fin and is generally smaller. Sexing: Females are more heavily bodied than males.
Feeding Will take a variety of prepared foods, flake and frozen, for maintenance.
Furniture Caves (rock or pipe), plants are often used as resting places in mid-water.
Compatibility: Very docile fish, mid-water swimmer; an ideal larger catfish for the community aquarium or garden pond best to stock in groups or colonies.
