The checkered barb is a small community fish prefect for most aquariums with other small species of fish. Checklered Barbs are a lively fish and are very active.
Checkered barbs are easily bred in captivity. This species has been introduced to Colombia where there are now large established populations in the wild there. It has also established in India.
Heavily planted vegetation is appreciated by these barbs and will offer a nice benefit than in many other barb species. The most important thing to keep in mind is to create a lot of open area for swimming of these fish. Checkered Barbs prefer clean, well-oxygenated water and a good filtrating system is always beneficial.
