The Rainbow Stiphodon Goby is a small, freshwater, algae-eating goby native to Sumatra, Indonesia. They are highly prized in the aquarium hobby for their vibrant colors and algae-grazing capabilities, particularly in high-turnover, “stream-style” tanks.
Stiphodon ornatus (Rainbow Goby) are excellent, peaceful community fish, ideal for specialized, well-oxygenated aquariums. They are small (2–3 inches), graze on algae/biofilm, and pair well with other non-aggressive, small fish like tetras, rasboras, and corydoras. They are safe for shrimp but need strong water flow and mature tanks.
