- Diet: Omnivore, In captivity they will accept flake food and suitably sized live or frozen food. Food items need to be small because Rasbora hengeli only have very small mouths.
Decorate with driftwood and real plants! Stocking: This is a shoaling species, keep in groups of five or more minimum. These are shy but peaceful and suitable for a community tank with other gentle species. Use Peat Granules to to recreate native heavily vegetated acidic still water. Breeding: Rasbora hengeli breed in a very similar fashion to Harlequin Rasboras and spawn on the underside of leaves. They are more difficult to breed than other rasnoras. Sexing: Females may be slightly more rounded than the males but there are no reliable external differences.

They can handle colder waters, and do not usually need a heater indoors so they are ideal for those wanting a low maintenance fish (no heater to worry about), that also adds so much action to a tank, they are a perfect fish for someone that is new to the hobby, or even for the old pro! Our zoological curators love using Rasboas in exhibits! This captivating small fish has very few specific care needs and they aren’t very demanding! They’re simple to care for. Offer them a proper diet and they will thrive! The perfect match for a beginner.
