The Phoenix Tetra (Hemigrammus stegemanni) is a relatively unknown little fish. It is a scientifically undescribed species assigned to the genus Hemigrammus. These very rare attractive fish that measure about 3.5 – 4.1 cm long were originally imported from Brazil as Hyphessobrycon stegemanni. Availability in the aquarium hobby, regardless of whether wild-caught or tank-bred has been nearly impossible since 1989 when it first turned up in the trade for a short while.
These are farm-raised fish not imports. There may be a periodic wait for these fish from time to time but we will try and keep them as a regular item at our farm.
