Description
The Guppy is also called the Millions Fish. You will find many color variations of the Poecilia reticulata guppy. The hardiness of the Guppy, as well as how rapid it matures makes it an excellent fish for beginners to advanced hobbyists.
The Guppy is very tolerant of changing tank conditions and is able to adapt to many different water types. Plants should be hardy varieties such as Java Ferns & Mosses that can handle the increased hardness in the tank. Other peaceful fish would make good tank mates in a community tank.
The females in this species may be of an assorted variety but you can differentiate the males and females easily by size and color as females are always going to be more dull in color, plus females are larger than the males. The males are smaller in size and of course have a brighter coloration with a bigger tail fin and pointed anal fin.
The Guppy is an omnivore and requires both algae-based foods as well as meaty foods. Use flake foods, along with freeze-dried bloodworms and micro pellets to offer proper nutrition.
