Description
Painted Variatus Live-bearer Aquarium Fish
Xiphophorus variatus
The lovely Painted Variatus are one of the farm-raised color morphs of the wild type originally found in southern Mexico. The Painted Variatus has an orange-ish red body color fade to deep red and black with speckling in the fade. Colors can be very different with this hybrid but always sure to please. The Variatus is generally more elongated than its close cousin the Platy. The Variatus will prefer a densely planted tank and can be kept in pairs or groups. As an herbivore, plant based foods should be part of their diet, though they will eat most all prepared foods for the aquarium.
