The Largemouth Bass (Micropterus salmoides) is considered one of the most sought after gamefish for anglers. This species is known to put up a fight when fishing and is a great addition to any pond.
Despite its popular names such as the Largemouth Bass, the Bigmouth Bass, Black Bass, and Widemouth Bass, this fish is actually not a bass at all. It is a member of the Sunfish family. The Largemouth Bass is identified by a series of dark blotches which form a jagged stripe down its side. The Largemouth Bass is the largest of the Black Bass family with a maximum weight of around 25 pounds.
