This is one of the newest Nerites introduced to the US aquarium hobby in late 2013, now avauilable again in 2023!
The Bajingo Nerite is one of the larger nerites that can get up to 3/4″ diameter or about the size of a nickel. Great algae eating snail for aquariums, and ponds. Nerites DO NOT reproduce in freshwater, but only in brackish or saltwater. In it’s native region this species is found primarily in coastal marine habitat, in fresh, brackish, and saltwater conditions. This snail will prosper in hard, alkaline freshwater for long periods, perhaps indefinitely. In brackish conditions, this is perhaps the ideal snail for low to moderate salinity at (SG 1.003 and upwards) success is altogether more secure. Various patterns on the shell will form with age, all will be different, just like humans, typically start out young with mostly black colorations.
