Description
Multies Shell Dweller (Neolamprologus multifasciatus)
The Multies Shell Dweller is one of the smallest and most fascinating African cichlids from Lake Tanganyika! These charming little fish feature delicate cream-to-golden coloration, subtle vertical striping, and beautiful iridescent highlights. Don’t let their tiny size fool you! Multies have enormous personalities and are famous for their entertaining behavior, constantly digging, moving sand, and arranging empty snail shells to create their own miniature underwater neighborhoods.
Unlike many larger African cichlids, Multies thrive in colonies, making them an excellent choice for smaller species aquariums.
They prefer fine sandy substrates, plenty of empty snail shells, and clean, hard, alkaline water. Once established, these remarkable little fish may even breed in the aquarium, raising their young within the safety of their shells. Peaceful toward suitable tankmates but protective of their territories, Multies offer endless entertainment and are a wonderful addition to any Lake Tanganyika aquarium!
