Blue Velvet Tiger Barb is a species of cyprinid fish native to the Malay Peninsula and the island of Borneo.
This is generally considered a medium-sized schooling fish and peacekeeper ideal for cichlid tanks. It has been known to reach 6″ in the wild, but not likely in a typical aquarium. It will generally stay in the mid to lower sections of your aquarium, and these fish have the ability to keep more aggressie fish from fighting, maybe they are fish whisperers? They do well in Asian, African and Australian habitats, but can also be used as a peacekeeper fish in South American setups.
A hobbyist or zoo exhibit would stock these barbs in large numbers in a larger tank. Water conditions are not critical in this easy to keep fish. Brighter colors will come out by use of color enhancing foods. They are frantic eaters which is delightful to watch.
