The Marble Hatchetfish or Hatchet is a very popular species of fish due to its unique body shape. Like other Hatchetfish, the Carnegiella strigata has a slender body with a deep belly & pectoral fins set very high on the body. The Marble Hatchet also has a rainbow of colors that dresses its stunningly shiny brown body. The Marble Hatchet also has an upturned mouth since it is a surface feeder. The Marble Hatchet prefers a heavily planted aquarium with a few floating plants as well so the Hatchet can hide.
Hatchets do best when kept in groups of about 8 or more. A carnivore, the Marble Hatchet will eat floating foods such as freeze-dried bloodworms and tubifex worms, high quality flakes, mosquito larvae, & other foods.
