Alternanthera ficoidea var. ‘green’ is a terrarium plant that is very decorative and is often used as an aquarium plant. It can only withstand being submerged for several months and must then be taken out and grown emerged for several months before being submerged again. It is very hardy and can be used in a Cichlid tank. Many customers that use this plant in aquariums often say that it does last longer than some other true aquarium plants they’ve tried, and consider it very hardy. Something to think about when buying this plant: When you buy roses for your sweetheart, those don’t last forever either, but if you were wanting a hardy plant for an exhibition, to fill in an empty space, or for use on spawning fish, this is a cheap and natural route to go.
