Freshwater Aquarium Shrimp, Crayfish & Lobsters
At Arizona Aquatic Nurseries, our goal is to help you combat algae problems naturally and without the use of harmful chemicals! Look at the selection of freshwater shrimp, freshwater crabs,  freshwater crabs below.  Our freshwater crustacean selection has grown popular over the years.  Our shrimp varieties offer excellent algae-eating, scavenging or filter feeding services.  With the correct stocking you too will be able to keep most any freshwater aquarium algae free and on a long term basis!  Most crustaceans have a typical lifespan of about 3 to 5 years depending on environment provided. Scavenger shrimp forage the bottom of the gravel for debris, removing detritus and waste, etc. World famous Japanese aquarium photographer Takashi Amano uses large numbers of Caridina multidentata, formerly japonica, to keep his popular aquascapes clean. Below, you can choose from one of the largest selectons of crustaceans in the U.S. that will clean your aquarium, entertain, and mesmerize you.

Our lively invertebrates are highly robust animals which will flourish when kept in the correct conditions. Most shrimp varieties have a relatively large tolerance of water parameters, so don’t be too worried that things won’t be compatible with your setup.  Remember that Sulawesi type shrimp do well in high pH  and hard waters.  In Arizona, our water is very hard, and pH is always high or at least above 8.0 out of the tap.  A good supply of air or oxygen and filtration is very important. If the oxygen level drops too low, this will have a devastating effect on crustacean health.

Many varieties of crustaceans thrive at a room temperature of 73-79F. Tropical varieties prefer slightly warmer temperatures of 77 plus. In some cases, up to 85F and up is not uncommon. In this instance an additional heater is necessary. Shrimp will become inactive water gets too cold. You should offer plenty of hiding places, such as a densely planted tank, rocks, wood, and cave-like retreats to help their well-being. Shrimp are gregarious animals and many of the most popular shrimp varieties reproduce regularly in captivity. The larvae of certain varieties of shrimp grow up in the sea in nature and will need marine salt additive to develop properly, therefore breeding these varieties in an aquarium is considerably more difficult or impossible for hobbyist. We also offer other assorted crustaceans that will help you with your aquarium, and complete your natural biotope. See below picture links for your options.  If you need any advice, we are here to help, just use our CONTACT page above to reach out to us.
